100 Million active installed base. "What's most important to us, is in survey after survey, the Mac continues to be rated number 1 in customer satisfaction"
"One of the drivers of customer satisfaction is macOS."
"And they especially love one Mac in particular. One that they take everywhere they go, and do everything with. And that is the MacBook Air."
'When Steve pulled the MacBook Air out of the envelope, it was clear that things would never be the same. It not influenced the Mac for years to come, but also the industry." IT was the very first thin and light notebook with all day battery life. It truly embraced the notion that less indeed could be more. and it redefined the modern notebook in the process.
It has become the most beloved notebook, ever.
It's time for a new MacBook Air. One that takes the MacBook Air experience even further in the areas that are most important to our customers. And of course, what we all want in a MacBook Air is a Retina Display!
And I'm incredibly excited today to introduce a MacBook Air with a retina display, and a whole lot more. And here it is! (Video plays)
The new MacBook Air seems like the MacBook 🤔
This is the new MacBook Air. I'd like to bring up Laura Legros, VP of hardware engineering to tell you all about it.
"I'm really excited to be here today to talk to you about the MacBook Air." Everything you see and touch has been carefully refined.
The number one feature customers have wanted is a Retina Display. But we've made the display better in every way. The familiar aluminum bezel is gone. The display glass goes right to the edge of the border, with bezels that are 50% smaller. 13.3" and the pixels are quadrupled, 4x the resolution, over 4 million pixels.
New MacBook Air gets Touch ID without the Touch Bar, using the T2 chip
Both text and images are sharper and more detailed, with 48% more color, so those images are more lifelike than ever. Even with the narrower border, we kept the FaceTime camera at the top of the display for Group FaceTime in Mojave.
The T2 chip also has secure boot and an SSD controller, so that you can be sure the software hasn't been tampered with and the disk encryption is secure.
Legros is touting the latest generation butterfly keyboard, and the 20% larger Force Touch trackpad.
Audio: customers spend a lot of time watching videos on their MacBook Air. The acoustic engineering team made huge strides: 25% louder, 2x the bass, and wide stereo sound. It has a 3-microphone array for Group FaceTime and "Hey Siri".
The new MacBook Air has 2x thunderbolt 3 ports, for thunderbolt, USB-C, 5k displays, or eGPUs. The new Air can connect to just about everything.
The Air has a 8th gen Core CPI, and supports up to 16GB of 2133mhz ram, with SSDs up to 1.5TB. The all-day battery life has the same great 12 hours of wireless web browsing and 13 hours of iTunes movie playback.
So the new MacBook Air is nearly a Pro in the profile of a Retina MacBook.
What if it were even more portable? The new Air has 17% less volume than the predecessor. It's 15.6mm thin, 10% thinner than the previous Air. It weighs just 2.7 pounds, or .25 pounds lighter.
8th gen dual core i5, I meant to say - VM
The new Air is 100% recycled tin in the logic board, and 35% post consumer recycled plastic in other components (like the speakers.)
Most applause going to the new MacBook Air being made from 100% recycled aluminum
The aluminum formerly relied on new ore. This new one uses 100% recycled aluminum. The Apple metallurgy team created a new alloy to enable this change.
The carbon footprint is reduced by 50% and makes it the greenest Mac, ever. Cue the video
